Collaborative regeneration projects across Upper Harbour

The Upper Waitematā Ecology Network is an open forum for a wide range of groups and organisations who collaborate to restore and regenerate the habitats of the Upper Harbour Local Board area of Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland).  From backyards to urban forests to the waters of Te Waitematā we aim to improve the biodiversity of our neighbourhoods and the wider landscape.

The groups in the network rely on the valuable contribution of volunteers and coordinators.  Our projects include planting trees, trapping predators, monitoring birds, cleaning up our beaches, advocating for environmental protection, leading sustainable actions and sharing knowledge.  We strive to regenerate our rohe (region) through a commitment to matauranga Māori (Māori knowledge) and Te Taiao (the natural world).

We appreciate the beauty of the Upper Waitematā Harbour, and are proud of its ecological significance.  We see our role as a contribution towards kaitiakitanga (guardianship of the natural world).  Together we are achieving something greater than we could on our own.

All of our community group members and partners have regular volunteering opportunities that you can take part in to help restoring the environment.  It is also a great opportunity to meet people, learn new skills, share your knowledge or spend some time in nature.  There is more information about all of our groups here.
