Rewilding for Resilience

Who we are
The Upper Waitematā, and by extension our Network is connected by our waterways. This is both a privilege and responsibility for us to ensure the mauri (life giving water) continues and thrives for future generations – both for people and the biodiversity around us. The Rewilding for Resilience is made up of a group of caring people who are advocating for nature, water, air and human health.
Why we exist
Intensification is happening all around us and is causing ongoing issues. To help with this we are working towards a landscape scale approach to protect and enhance our natural systems. We work with iwi, Council and other key concerned community groups, schools and individuals to provide an exemplary model that works towards restoration and potential – one that sees people as the solution rather than the problem. This is a complex issue and it is vital that we do not simplify it or isolate problems and try and solve them piecemeal. It is a beautiful living system that needs to be understood and respected.
Time is not on our side. climate emergency, biodiversity loss, social inequality and growing intensification is happening now. Whilst we understand the need for urban development it is paramount that we take this as an opportunity to regenerate and improve the situation so as to not defer the problems for future generations to resolve. Complex and inter-related projects to improve our waterways, bring back native birds, reduce predator populations, tackle invasive weeds, enhance green spaces, build nature corridors, connect people, improve wellbeing and support economic growth and resilience all link together through nature.
Why is this important
We are the voice for those that cannot speak – the fish, sea life and local birds and our future generations that come after us. We want to leave things better than we found it - much better. We all have a part to play in protecting our environment, the implications of doing nothing are too terrifying to ignore.
If you want to help us speak for those that can not, to help influence decision makers, share your knowledge and support others to take action then we would love for you to join us.
